Multiplication Process
During Jesus’ first year with the 12 Disciples, He worked with them as a cohort and individually as they watched Him teach and do miracles. Soon into year 2 He shocked them by appointing them into teams of 6–sending them out throughout Judea–giving them the authority over sicknesses and demons. Between the lines, we discover that sometime after the 12 returned, there were 72 Discples! How did that happen?
We are not sure, but I think that, since they all went out and did the works of Jesus, they also gathered another 60 Disciples who ultimately followed them back to their Savior. Just as Jesus called the 12–and the 12 called the 60 (a 6-fold-per-disciple increase) we began with 4 Kenyan men in 2013 who multiplied to 8 in 2016 all while the 4 were being coached over the telephone by the founder in California! Using Train the Trainer and the Timothy Principle, our Coordinators tripled to 24 by 2017, and 65 by 2018! By believing in Jesus’ 3-year model–even when hindered by 15,000 miles, this principle worked. Below are some FAQ’s that might help your church or organization multiply your experienced leaders too.
-
What are your main expenses? 38% of our costs go to printing, binding, and delivering Field Training Manuals (our curricula) and New Testament Bibles
for each Church Leader attendee at our conferences. Other costs go to: a) buying, fueling, and maintaining our “MotorWings” motorbike fleet; Travel, Wifi, and smartphones for our senior leadership team (10). b) travel costs for our volunteer trainers across the West and Central Kenya, and into Uganda. c) Stipends for Staff
-
Tell me about your conferences. Our average conference size is between 40-80 men, and, unlike other Western-supported training events in Africa, the backlog of men who have been waiting to experience the classes, has convinced them to pay for their own travel, food, and lodging.
-
Who are your 160 Certified “Coordinators? Vetted and discipled African ministers who have graduated from all 3 courses and who feel called to train other church leaders for our movement. Usually, these are part or full-time ministers. We develop each man through our vetting process. a) First they pass a psychometric assessment which measures their behavioral styles and motivator drivers. b) They serve as a “Timothy” in the field assigned to help a veteran Coordinator. Slowly, using our 4-Step Mastery Process, they learn to do more and more until they are appointed as a Coordinator at which time they find their own Timothy and begin leading conferences themselves. The process is overseen by Cluster Leaders of 10-15 Coordinators each. The Cluster leaders deliver data and expense reports to our PBL Operations Board of 8 men.
-
How many ministry leadership conferences have you hosted? To date, we have hosted over 950 Church Leadership conferences with 175 more in prisons. With funding in 2023, and our partner ministry efforts, we could double these numbers by the end of 2024.
-
How long do they last? the conference typically lasts 3 days for church leaders, and we complete prison training with once-per-month visits over 10-11 months
-
What about self-sustainability? We currently are sustainable at 50% of the budget. It is our goal to continue to release funding to expansions in Uganda, Bo.ivia, and the US Urban Project while our Kenya operation is fully sustained by 2030. After 5 years of trial and error, and training 11,000 men in our Farms for Life program, we already see 1000’s farms reaching or exceeding a 3X harvest, freeing market income equal to over $10 million in 2022. As FFL organic farming techniques continue to heal the soils, each year the harvests will be growing. SIMBA – Last Spring 2021 we began SIMBA Enterprises in Western Counties, investing in 15 worthy and skilled workers with $100 in capital to start a business in poultry, livestock, retail sales, or clothing; c) Our Bungoma-based organization has also planted its first 3 Farms for Life Ex-con Training Farms, the profits of which will fund various ministries and needs for PBL Kenya. We also have developed new ministry partners who share our same objectives and will be assisting us with budgets and labor.
